Mountlake Terrace’s Tina Liu, Meadowdale’s Morgan Rood and Hannah Peterson, and Edmonds-Woodway’s Frances Monahan and Kathryn Schalk all punched their tickets to prep state championship tournaments after their finishes in district competition on Wednesday.

Rood won the 3A District 1 Girls Golf Championship title after shooting a second round 84 at Kayak Point Golf Course in Mukliteo. With her opening round 81 on Monday, the Mavericks senior posted a two-day score of 165, ten strokes better than the district tournament runner-up Emmi Modahl of Arlington.

Peterson will join her Meadowdale teammate at the WIAA 3A State Girls Golf Championships next week in Spokane after placing 16th in the district competition. E-W’s Monahan and Schalk will also make the trek to Eastern Washington for the state golf tournament after their third and ninth place respectively at the district championship.

Liu qualified for her fourth straight trip to the WIAA State Tennis Tournament by earning a second place finish in the 3A District 1 Girls Tennis Tournament that concluded Wednesday at Arlington High School. Liu had to settle for the district runner-up spot in the singles competition after being defeated by Shorewood’s Sasha Gaeth in the District 1 Championship match 6-0, 6-1.

Edmonds-Woodway’s Olivia Olson / Hailey Rehnfeldt fell short in their bid to get to the state tennis tournament as the pair lost to Glacier Peak’s Micah Flood and Issy Koehler 6-2, 6-2 in the district doubles’ third/fourth place match on Wednesday.
