The Mountlake Terrace Hawks found some significant scoring from two unlikely sources – sophomore Khyree Armstead and junior Joey Gardner – and won their fourth game-in-a-row, holding off the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks 56-46 in a boys basketball contest played at Mountlake Terrace High School on Saturday.
Armstead scored in double figures for just the third time in his young prep career, leading the Hawks with 14 points. Gardner, who is averaging less than four points per game this year, lit up the scoreboard with 13 points.
Hawk senior Gabe Altenberger also contributed 13 points for Terrace on Saturday.
The Tomahawks were led in scoring by Hunter Whitney and Nate Heckendorf, each with 11 points; Josh Bevan added 10 points for M-P.
Terrace returns to Wesco League South Conference action on Tuesday, Jan. 5, when they travel to Glacier Peak for a key matchup with the Grizzlies. G-P is 7-4 overall, but has already suffered two losses in conference play and will want to defend their home court against the South Conference co-leaders Mountlake Terrace. Game time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
