Planning Commission holding Public Hearing on Comp Plan update on May 26

City-of-MLT-logoThe 2015 update of the Comprehensive Plan will be considered by the Planning Commission at a Public Hearing at 7 p.m., May 26 at the Mountlake Terrace Interim City Hall, 6100 219th Street SW, Suite 220, second floor.

This review and update of the Comprehensive Plan is due in mid-2015.

The purpose of the Plan is to ensure it reflects the community’s vision, has identified goals and policies to achieve that vision and is consistent with state laws. The current update is to cover the next 20-year planning period, 2015-2035, and is therefore considered a “major update”.

The City Council determined that since the existing Comprehensive Plan was already in good shape and generally consistent with state law it did not need major revisions to its goals, policies or land use designations.

The public is invited to learn about the proposed updates and provide comment at any of the upcoming meetings. In addition, display materials and other information about the proposed Plan update can be viewed between 6:307 p.m. in the Council Chambers prior to any upcoming meeting where the Comprehensive Plan is on the agenda.

The next Planning Commission meeting is May 11. The City Council will hold several work sessions in May and June. Its next work/study session is May 14.

Public comments are encouraged and welcome. Written comments must be received by 4 p.m. on the day of the Planning Commission or City Council hearings.

After the Planning Commission public hearing on May 26, the Commission will forward a recommendation to the City Council on the adoption of the Plan. The City Council public hearing is on June 15.

All meetings begin at 7 p.m. at Interim City Hall.

Copies of the proposed draft updates to the Comprehensive Plan elements are posted on a special website for the 2015 major update at www.cityofmlt.com/majorupdate.
