After a few months of remodeling work, the Mountlake Terrace Senior Center is now ready to show off its new home.
The Mountlake Terrace Community Senior Center @ Ballinger Park is hosting a community open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, March 27. The open house at the former Ballinger Clubhouse, 23000 Lakeview Dr., will take place from 2-5 p.m.; a ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. with a reception following until 8 p.m.
The seniors moved out of their old home at 5605-235th St. S.W. earlier this year, but wanted to wait until additional renovations were completed before conducting a big public celebration. Remodels of the kitchen, dining areas, office space and a meeting room were done by mostly volunteer labor and a grant from the Verdant Health Commission.
The group is leasing the building from the City of Mountlake Terrace at $1,500 per month for five years.
Since moving programming and administration to the Ballinger Park facility, membership in the group has grown 25 percent, said Mountlake Terrace Senior Center Executive Director Mike Cooper. “We have an average of three new members per week, putting us on track to be over 400 members by the end of 2014,” he added.
