The City of Mountlake Terrace Evergreen Awards was implemented last year to recognize property owners who take pride in their properties. Funded in part by a grant from the Snohomish County-Camano Association of Realtors (SCCAR), the program enhances the city’s image, builds community pride, and promotes conservation. This year the Council approved plans to continue the popular program and nominations are open through May 29.
The Evergreen Awards program has five categories of awards and nominees are judged against properties within each neighborhood: East Mountlake Terrace, Gateway, Lake Ballinger, Melody Hill, North Mountlake Terrace and Town Center.
Best Maintained Awards reflect the efforts of owners or occupants whose high standards for building and yard maintenance contribute to the character of our neighborhoods and city. The Transformation Awards recognize neglected properties renovated to become assets to the community. Recognize those hidden gems that have made significant improvements, especially over the past year.
The Sustainable Award honors property owners who best utilize green features such as solar heating, natural cooling and native landscaping to help protect and preserve the environment. If you have a sustainable home and/or landscaping, nominate yourself and describe these improvements so the city can contact you to take photos of your sustainable features.
“This program highlights our continual efforts to promote pride in our community and showcase Mountlake Terrace as a desirable place to live and do business,” stated Community Relations Director Virginia Olsen. “Our winners and nominees from last year were pleased to be recognized for their extraordinary efforts to maintain and beautify their properties.”
The deadline for nominations is May 29, 2010 and you may nominate your own property or one owned by someone else. Properties being marketed for sale and previous winners are not eligible. Nomination forms are available from the City of Mountlake Terrace or can be downloaded at www.cityofmlt.com. Properties will be photographed for judging and awards will be presented at a recognition event in September.
