An enthusiastic crowd made history at Wednesday night’s Terrace Idol finals as the Audience Trophy vote ended in a tie between Katy Bodnar and Lucas Pope, two Mountlake Terrace High School students who were named co-winners of the trophy. Bodnar also picked up the Judges Trophy from the three-judge panel of Emily Brotherton, Mackenzie Thoms and Frank Blosser.

The other students competing in Wednesday’s finals were Terrace’s Senaiet Zerom and Lynnwood High School’s Abby Martinez and Auryana Ashoori. Last year’s winner, Kaitlin Martin, also performed during the two-hour show.

Mountlake Terrace principal Greg Schwab joined Zerom on stage, providing musical accompaniment on acoustic guitar.

Bodnar said she was excited and surprised by the night’s results. Coming from a musical family, Bodnar said she has been singing “since I was really little,” and learned to play guitar with some help from her dad.

While Bodnar received congratulatory wishes from friends and family, Pope was carried from the school on the shoulders of friends and football teammates, accompanied by loud cheers.
