The Mountlake Terrace High School Sports Booster Club (SBC) is honoring their 2016 Mike Watson Memorial Scholarship recipient and a member of the school’s 2015-2016 Hip Hop dance team with the July/August edition of the Athletes Highlights poster.
Senior Jason Ernst was presented this year’s Mike Watson Memorial Scholarship last month. The $500 scholarship is presented each spring to a MTHS student athlete in honor of Mike Watson, a 1982 graduate of the school who passed away in 2012. Watson was not only an athlete during his student years at MTHS, but coached numerous seasons at the school.
Ernst competed with the MTHS Hawks track team during his senior year and finished second at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships in the Mixed 400 Meter Run and the Mixed Javelin Throw for Ambulatory (disabled) athletes.
Junior Brittany Delany received praise from MTHS Hip Hop Advisor Ashley Dawson. “Brittany was brand new to the dance team this year and was a wonderful addition,” Dawson said. “Brittany is dedicated to her work and to growing her skills as a dance; she continued to work hard all season, even with a knee and hip injury that kept her out for a little while.”
“Brittany is the kind of athlete a coach loves to have on a team because she shows up ready to sweat and put everything into practices and she does it with such joy and excitement,” Dawson added.
The July/August 2016 edition of the Athlete Highlights poster completes the fourth school year that the SBC has brought attention to MTHS student athletes with the publication. The monthly posters can be seen at local participating businesses and community centers.
