Mountlake Terrace High School senior Monika Young has qualified to compete in a national showcase at the Educational Theatre Association’s Thespian Festival at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln this June.
Young earned her spot in the Thespian Festival national individual event by scoring a “superior” on a monologue performance she gave at the Washington State Thespian Festival March 21-22 at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.
Young has been actively involved in the MTHS drama department for four years, most recently cast in the school’s winter 2014 production of “Sympathy Jones” in the role of the musical’s villain Kitty Hawk.
The national Thespian Festival is a week-long conference for high school thespian groups, theatre clubs and drama departments, with dozens of workshops and performances. The National Individual Events Showcase at the festival gives qualified students the opportunity to perform and compete in categories such as monologues, duel acting, musical theatre, mime and various theatre technical skills. The 2014 event is scheduled for June 23-28.
