MTHS girls notch 58-36 hoops tournament win

hawks logoThe Mountlake Terrace girls basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and strong defense to end their seven-game skid, beating the Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) Lions 58-36 in the opening game of the King’s Christmas Tournament in Shoreline on Thursday.

Samantha Romanowski led the Hawks with 18 points with Nikkie Froehlich added 14 points. Seven Hawks scored in the team’s second highest scoring outing of the season.

Mountlake Terrace broke open a close game by holding the Lions (1-5) to just three points, while scoring 16 for themselves, in the second quarter.

The Hawks (2-7) couldn’t contain junior Laura Goodnight, who exploded for 27 points for the Lions, but held the remaining Cedar Park Christians players to a total of nine points.

Mountlake Terrace moves on in the winners bracket to face Enumclaw (5-4) on Friday at 4 p.m. A victory would put the Hawks into the tourney’s championship game on Saturday night. All games are being played at the Mike Martin gymnasium of King’s High School at 300 N. 190th St. in Shoreline.
