MTHS Football Booster Club fundraiser brings in more than $10K
The Mountlake Terrace High School Football Booster Club finished a successful week of fundraising by bringing in more than $10,000 to be split between the high school football program and the family of Mike Watson, local softball coach who suffered a fatal heart attack on Aug. 17.
About $7,000 was raised at last Saturday’s dinner/auction held in Mountlake Terrace, 80 percent of which came in the form of donations from local businesses. An additional $1,450 was collected during the live auction portion of the event that will go directly to the Watson family.
Last week, the booster club held a fundraiser at Red Onion restaurant. That evening’s total raised was $2,650, all going to the Watson family.
Red Onion owner Seaun Richards reports that the Watson family fundraiser was the biggest he has ever held at the restaurant. Usual Tuesday fundraisers bring in $100-$300; “the biggest check I’ve written this year before was for $750,” Richards said.
Booster Club fundraising coordinator Susan Esparza called the week “a very big success!”
