The VFW National Life Saving award was presented to Mountlake Terrace High School Girls JV Basketball Coach Rachael Boehme at a recent Mountlake Terrace High School assembly.

Boehme was honored for her rescue of two men from an overturned car in a water-filled ditch on Christmas Eve, 2013. Leadership at VFW Post 1040 had read a local media report about her heroics and submitted a recommendation for the award to the VFW National Headquarters in Kansas City, citing Boehme as truly an “Angel of Mercy.”

Ironically, Boehme had also come to the aid of a pregnant woman whose car had been hit by a fallen tree on Highway 2 at Stevens Pass in December 2012.
