Culminating Project: The main focus of my Culminating Project is graphic design, but the subcategory of my project is packaging design. I’m redesigning DVD packaging by completely redesigning the packaging of the case and then tailoring it to fit 3 different animes. (They’re El Cazador De La Bruja, The Slayers, and K-ON!) I’m specifically using the Adobe products InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. I am working closely with my mentor to create a product that I can use in my portfolio for college.
Current Employment: I don’t currently have a job, but I do babysit on the side. I also take artist commissions on my DeviantArt page. I don’t make much money off of that, but it’s something I enjoy doing.
Future Educational Goals: I’m planning on going to Shoreline Community College in the fall and enrolling in their two-year graphic design program. I also plan on submitting my portfolio to Seattle Central Community College in hopes to get into their graphic design program throughout the two years I’m at SCC. After I finish my two years at SCC, I plan to either go to SCCC and enroll in their two year graphic design program or to transfer to UW and get a degree in business.
Future Career Goals: I plan on becoming a graphic designer. I’m not entirely sure what I want to do, whether it be packaging design like my senior project, or making more web based graphics. That’s one of the reasons I’m going to school for this, so I can figure out what I want to do with my career in graphic design.
Anything else we should know? I helped the art club create the murals in the art hallway. I worked with three other people to create a tribute panel to Hayao Miyazaki, creator of most of the movies from Studio Ghibli. Our mural includes his movies Spirited Away, Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and Kiki’s Delivery Service. The mural took about 50 plus hours and it’s still not done. We plan to finish the entire art hallway before the end of the year.
