Mountlake Terrace High School was evacuated this afternoon after a bomb threat was received by a staff member at the school.
Two back-to-back phone calls from someone making the bomb threat were received at 1:26 p.m., according to Edmonds School District spokesperson DJ Jakala. The fire alarm was pulled by staff and the school was evacuated.
The Mountlake Terrace, Edmonds and Brier Police Departments responded to the call. Police searched the building and did not find anything out of the ordinary. Students and staff were allowed back into the building at 2:10 p.m.
The school district diverted buses to Cedar Way Elementary School and students walked there to catch their buses.
“Student safety obviously is the highest priority,” Jakala said. “The kids did a really good job, as did the staff, in ensuring student safety.”
Police will be following up on the threat.
“We’ll be investigating with the assistance of the school district,” said Mountlake Terrace Deputy Police Chief Pete Caw.
Mountlake Terrace Prinicipal Greg Schwab was going to be sending out a voice mail to parents and a letter also will be sent out to parents.
