On June 30, the City of Mountlake Terrace Police Department graduated 19 students from its Citizens Police Academy. The graduates spent 3 hours a week, for 11 weeks, learning how a Police Department and other City Departments operate.
Students toured the 911-dispatch center, rode along with an Officer on patrol and watched the department’s K-9, Hunter, search for hidden drugs. There were many hours of classroom time on subjects such as domestic partner stalking and evidence collection.
“This program was a great opportunity to meet our Police Department and other city departments, learn how the city functions, and how they keep our community safe,” said Lisa Eckhart, Mountlake Terrace resident. “It’s great to live in a community that is so well run, to learn more about it, and feel like I’m a part of it.”
The Graduation Ceremony, held at the Mountlake Terrace Library, included participants receiving their Certificates of Completion, along with congratulations from the City Council and Police Chief.
The City of Mountlake Terrace Police Department Citizens Academy, held annually in late spring, is open to anyone over 18 or over 16 with a parent attending.
