MLT Senior Center delivers donations to Oso victims

Leaders of the Mountlake Terrace Community Senior Center delivered more than $2,000 in cash and 500 pounds of non-perishable food to groups affected by the March 22 mudslide in Oso. The money and food was collected at the senior center the week of March 23-29.

There was such a response to the call for donations that getting all the items collected to northern Snohomish County proved somewhat difficult, said MLT Community Senior Center Executive Director Mike Cooper. The leadership team drove the cash and food to Arlington to meet up with a representative from the Cascade Senior Center in Darrington, but they had more food donations than space allowed for in her car.

“Eight cases of water were delivered (instead) to the Arlington Fire Station, and some bread and three more boxes of food were delivered to Oso, thanks to a Girl Scout troop who agreed to make the delivery,” Cooper explained.

“While there is a lot of destruction and many lives have been lost, we witnessed communities pulling together and helping each other,” he added.
