Mountlake Terrace police detectives are investigating a stabbing that left a 20-year-old man dead in the 6300 block of St. Albion Way early Saturday morning, March 29.

Police were called to the residence at 1:48 a.m. Saturday after a woman called from her locked bedroom to report a male roommate with a possible fatal wound. The male suspect, another friend, was reported as having run from the residence, police said.

Our online news partner The Seattle Times reported that the victim, from Mountlake Terrace, was stabbed by a man who wanted his Xanax pills returned.

Mountlake Terrace police Commander Doug Hansen told The Times that the alleged assailant, also 20 and from Mountlake Terrace, called police a short distance from the apartment and told them he’d killed his friend while trying to get his Xanax pills back, Hansen said. Xanax is a brand prescription drug for treating anxiety and panic disorder.

The man was booked into Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Police declined to identify the victim, pending notification of family.
