MLT City Council updates State Environmental Policy Act ordinance

An updated ordinance for implementing the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) was adopted by Mountlake Terrace City Council following a public hearing at its May 20 meeting.

In 2012, the state Department of Ecology updated its SEPA rules to streamline regulatory processes in light of the increased environmental protections in place under the Growth Management Act, Shoreline Management Act, and other laws. The city’s update implements the state’s new rules into Mountlake Terrace Municipal Code, which was last amended in 1984.

Updates were developed to address SEPA-related issues such as categorical exemptions, planned actions, city and state references, and administrative procedures.
