So what does the Mayor of Mountlake Terrace do on Fathers’ Day? Have a cool lemonade on the back deck? Well, not if you’re Mayor Jerry Smith; instead you climb into your Caterpillar forest machine and get some heavy lifting done.
Smith was out on Sunday afternoon helping clear a lot in Mountlake Terrace recently purchased by the Catholic Diocese of Seattle. The church is converting the .69-acre property at 22021-58th Ave. W. into a parking lot for the adjacent St. Pius X School. Smith was clearing the large tree on the western portion of the property on Sunday; demolition of the one-story residential home is scheduled to begin on Monday, he said.
