I-5 signOvernight closures of some southbound lanes of I-5 from Lynnwood to 220th Street Southwest in Mountlake Terrace have been the norm over the past couple of weeks as the freeway is being repaved. Now that repaving effort is moving south, and not only will it bring new freeway lane closures, but construction will affect the 220thStreet SW overpass as well.

Beginning Sunday night, Aug. 18, through Wednesday morning, Aug. 21, the three right lanes of southbound I-5 from 52nd Avenue West to State Route 104 (Ballinger Way) will be closed nightly for paving work. The lanes will be closed at progressive times, with the first lane closed at 9 p.m., the second at 10 p.m. and the third at 1 p.m. All lanes will be reopened daily by 5 a.m.

Overnight closures of the on- and off-ramps at 220th Street Southweset to and from southbound I-5 will also be in effect Monday, Aug. 19 through Friday, Aug. 23, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will have detours in place for the on- and off-ramp closures.

The northbound side of I-5 will see some effects of the construction work also. From Aug. 19-23 the off-ramp from northbound I-5 to 220th Street Southweset will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.; WSDOT will have detours in place.

Work is also scheduled on the 220th Street Southwest overpass as well. The eastbound lanes of 220th Street Southwest will be closed nightly from 10 p.m.to 5 a.m.; traffic both directions on the overpass will be flagged during the hours of overnight construction.

Next week’s work is all part of the $5.356 million repaving and construction project taking place on I-5 from 52nd Avenue West to State Route 104 and the freeway ramps and overpasses this summer.
