Two MTYAA (Mountlake Terrace Youth Athletic Associationn) teams make it to the WJFL (Wesco Junior Football League) Championship this weekend: the MTYAA Sr. Red and the MTYAA Sr. White. Yes, that means it’s a winner take all Trojan bowl for the championship this weekend at Edmonds District Stadium. (Time TBD, but most likely 3 or 4PM). The game is at 5pm on Saturday. MLTNews recently covered the MTYAA Youth Football organization. Check the MTYAA Jr. Football website for definitive game time.
All the teams fought hard through the regular season, playoffs, and semi-finals. The Jr. Red fell to the Lynnwood Tigers in the semi-playoff round as well as the 89er White, who took a heartbreaking loss to Mukilteo.
In the ealier playoffs, the 89er Red team fell to the Cyclones, and PeeWee White sucumbed to Meadowdale.
The Sr. Whites are hoping to continue their undefeated season (8-0 regular, 2-0 post-season), while the Sr. Reds are hoping to exact a little revenge against the Sr. White as the only team to hand them a loss during the regular season (7-1 regular season, 2-0 post season). Both teams have played incredibly well this season and improved dramatically since game 1, so it should be a hard fought battle for that title!
For many of the boys on both teams, this game represents their last MTYAA endeavor as 8th graders making the change next year into high school, and what better way than to have all the 8th grade MTYAA players play in the same game!
All in all, everone should be very proud of a great season put forth by all teams, all players, all coaches, and all parents. Mountlake Terrace as a community should be proud of a successful MTYAA Trojan Season!
Unfortunately, it’s now time to pick sides and create a youth football civil war by rooting for your favorite MTYAA Senior team: is it red or is it white? Sound off on the MTYAA Jr. Football Facebook Page, or here in the comments section, and then get yourself out to watch what should be a fantastic clash of the MTYAA ‘titans’.
