With strong team efforts, the cross country squads of Mountlake Terrace High School took home the Edmonds District Championships at Lynndale Park in Lynnwood on Thursday as the Hawks outpaced their rivals Edmonds-Woodway, Meadowdale and Lynnwood in the boys and girls varsity team competitions.
In their best team effort of the season, the Terrace boys placed five runners in the top eight and outran the runner-up team by 18 points. The Hawks’ Jack Pearce finished second in the 5000 meter run with a personal high school competition best time of 15:16. Peter Kidane grabbed fourth place with a time of 15:32, Nathan Sparks placed fifth at 15:38, Chris Baumgartner finished sixth at 15:46, and Wyatt Allemann ran to eighth place at 15:54.
Edmonds-Woodway’s Miler Haller won the boys varsity race with a time of 14:46.
On the girls side, the top three teams were separated by just six points; Terrace was able to slip past runner-up Lynnwood by placing four runners in the top seven. Freshman Katherine Gustafson finished the 5,000 meter course in fourth place with a time of 17:53. Teammate Sophia Nelson followed in fifth place at 17:58, Ella Schroth grabbed sixth at 18:19, and Katherine Walter finished seventh at 18:31. Hawk Maddie Dellinger completed the Terrace scorers by placing 17th at 20:43.
Mikayla Pivec of Lynnwood won the girls varsity competition with a dominating run of 16:47.
