It might be understandable if the Mountlake Terrace Hawks hit the field with a lot of confidence Friday night in their football showdown against Marysville Getchell. The Hawks have outscored their opponents 187-33 over their last five games, including a 42-8 drubbing of Shorewood in their last game.

Even Head Coach Tony Umayam couldn’t contain his exuberance after his team’s performance against the T-Birds last Friday. “We put a pretty nice game together there,” he said afterward.

Does that mean there has been nothing to work on this week as the Hawks prepare for the winner-to-district match-up with the Chargers this Friday? Not at all, said Umayam; “We can always execute better on offense. We can always get to the ball, swarm better on defense,” he explained.

Mountlake Terrace (4-4) and Marysville Getchell (4-4) meet at 5 p.m. Friday at Quil Ceda Stadium, 5611-108th St. N.E. in Marysville, to determine the sixth and final seed from the Wesco/Northwest Conferences into the WIAA 3A District 1 playoffs. Already in the District 1 playoffs are Glacier Peak (7-1), Maryville-Pilchuck (7-1), Ferndale (7-1), Meadowdale (6-2) and Oak Harbor (6-2), whose seedings will be determined by game results this Friday.

If the Hawks prevail Friday, they would play the No. 1 seed from the Seamount League, most likely Kennedy (Burien), on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. at a site-to-be-determined in the Burien/Sea-Tac/Renton area.

This Friday’s game against Marysville=Getchell will be broadcast live on the Hawks Live Sports Network on MLTnews.com beginning at 4:50 p.m.
