Kickoff for the Mountlake Terrace — Stanwood football game on Friday, Nov. 1, has been moved to 8 p.m. in consideration for the Oak Harbor Wildcats, who will be facing Meadowdale that same night at Edmonds Stadium.
The MTHS-Stanwood game had originally been scheduled for 5 p.m., but administrators at Oak Harbor High School asked if they could play in the early game at the stadium, said Edmonds School District Athletic Director Julie Stroncek. “We try to accommodate when we have a school traveling a long distance,” she said.
An 8 p.m. kickoff would have meant Oak Harbor players, coaches and fans might end up returning to their north Whidbey Island home well after midnight following the game and a long drive back through Skagit County and Deception Pass, Stroncek explained.
Meadowdale and Oak Harbor face each other at 5 p.m. in a match-up of second place teams from the Wesco South and North conferences; both teams have already qualified for district playoff games the following weekend. The winner of the Terrace-Stanwood game claims the sixth and final playoff seed from the Wesco League and the loser is eliminated from playoff action.
Both the Meadowdale-Oak Harbor and the Terrace-Stanwood games will be broadcast live on the Sound Live Sports Network beginning with the pregame show at 4:45 p.m.
This is an important rematch and another home game. We need as many fans as possible to show up.
