After seeing Glacier Peak pound out 25 hits against his squad on Tuesday, Mountlake Terrace Hawk coach Andrew Watters sent Dominic DeMiero to the mound on Wednesday, hoping the junior could slow down the Grizzlies’ hitters. DeMiero did that and more, pitching a complete game, giving up just six hits and picking up the win as the Hawks prevailed 7-1 in the second game of a three-game series between the schools.
DeMiero struck out nine and only walked one in picking up his second win of the year. It was the first complete game for a Hawk pitcher this season.
In a turnaround from the first game of the series, it was Terrace hitters who were hitting the ball on Wednesday as the squad picked up 11 hits, including doubles by Quintin Barnard, Wyatt Allenmann and Jason Shevenko. Bernard leads the team in doubles for the season with five.
The Grizzlies (3-1 in league, 5-2 overall) and the Hawks (2-2, 4-3) meet in the rubber match of the series on Friday at Mountlake Terrace High School; first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
