The Mountlake Terrace Hawks baseball team built a 6-0 lead after two innings, then held on the rest of the way to record a 6-4 victory over the Meadowdale Mavericks on Friday. The win finished off a three-game series sweep for the Hawks over their Wesco South foe over the past week.
Terrace played as the visitors on their own field in the Friday matchup after the game was moved from its original site at Meadowdale High School due to the unplayable condition of the school’s natural grass ballfield.
Hawk Quintin Bernard slugged doubles in each of his first two at bats, knocking in one RBI in the first inning, then clearing the bases for a three-RBI double in the second inning to held Terrace build their early lead.
Hawk starting pitcher Jason Shevenko gave up four runs, three earned, in his four innings of mound work, but that was enough to earn the victory as teammate Connor Clausen shutdown the Mavericks over the final three innings and pick up the save.
The win moved Terrace’s record to 5-7 in league play, 7-8 overall; Meadowdale dropped to 6-6, 7-8.
The Hawks will begin a three-game series with Shorecrest on Tuesday, Apr. 23, with a 4:00 p.m. matchup at Shorecrest High School.
The second game is scheduled for Wed., Apr. 24, at MTHS, with the series finale set for Friday, Apr. 26 at Shorecrest.
