A hazmat crew was dispatched to Alderwood Mall on Friday afternoon after a suspicious package containing a threatening note was located in a back office of the mall.
Four people who made contact with the package were evaluated and released. The package is not considered an immediate threat to the public.
The item was the type of item a person may carry around, Lynnwood Cmdr. Wes Deppa said. Exactly what the item was will not be released during the investigation.
The note on the package warned anyone who contacted it would have come into contact with a “toxic substance.”
After the item was found, it was turned over to mall management. It was determined by hazmat not to contain any hazardous substance.
“Despite being a hoax, a crime was committed and is being investigated by LPD detectives,” Deppa said.
