An Aug. 10 car wash fundraiser and a GoFundMe page have been established to honor the memory of 16-year-old Edmonds-Woodway High School student Zach Langer, and will benefit an international nonprofit dedicated to building housing for people in need.

Langer was one of two teens who died and three who were injured in a July 23 car crash on Olympic View Drive.

“I want to do something meaningful that will honor Zach,” explained Kim Kelly, whose son Hunter was friends with Langer at EWHS. According to Kelly, Langer was planning to take his seventh mission trip to Tijuana, Mexico on Aug. 13 to build homes through Esperanza International.  “Zach had a real passion for these mission trips and we want to honor his passion,” Kelly said.

Funds raised during the car wash, which runs from 1-6 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6215 196th St. S.W., Lynnwood, will be used to purchase a new jackhammer for those going on the next mission trip, Kelly said. Any extra money raised will go to additional supplies needed for the Esperanza International trip, she said.
