Foundation 5K run raises $41K for Edmonds public schools

Last Saturday’s 5th Annual 5k Run/Walk benefiting the Edmonds Public Schools Foundation had a record year with 691 registered runners and walkers, raising $41,000 — more than double what was donated last year.

Event proceeds will fund important programs like after-school study time, technology, and classroom projects.

Lynndale Elementary has the most walkers, with 53 dedicated students, parents and teachers.  Honorable mentions include:

-Brier Terrace Middle School: 47
-Cedar Valley Community School: 46
-Meadowdale Middle School: 46

Twelve schools had 20 or more participants and will receive a portion of the proceeds.

“This exceeded our expectation in terms of participation and dollars raised,” said Deb Anderson, executive director for the foundation. “We look forward to putting these dollars to work for the students of the Edmonds School District.”

Runner Christopher Kratz was the first to cross the finish line, with a time of of 16 minutes 45 seconds.

The My Neighborhood News Network, including MLTnews, was a sponsor of the event. Other sponsors included Alderwood Mall, Comcast, Premera, Experience Momentum, Swedish Edmonds, B2C Publishing, Classic Country 1520 AM Radio, Fox Sports 1380 AM Radio, Jersey Mikes, Umpqua Bank, Western Printing and Graphics, Lynnwood Bowl & Skate, Wholefoods Market, Walgreens and Lynnwood Police Guild.
