King ShowcaseAfter a tough home loss on Friday, the Mountlake Terrace High School boys basketball team will be looking to get back in the win column on Monday, Jan. 20, when they take part in the King Showcase at the ShoWare Center in Kent.

The Hawks are scheduled to tip off against the Central Catholic Rams of Portland, Ore., at 3:30 p.m. in the fifth of eight games to be played at the all-day event. Ticket prices are $10, $5 for students with valid ASB, and the price gets you in for all eight games; doors open at 8:30 a.m.

Terrace (10-3) fell to the undefeated Stanwood Spartans 63-61 on Friday, and although Central Catholic only holds a 4-9 record on the season, the Hawks know they will be facing another strong opponent on Monday.

MTHS Head Coach Nalin Sood had been preparing his squad for the challenge of facing Stanwood and Central Catholic back-to-back for some time. “I told them that we got 64 minutes of great basketball teams coming up,” Sood said at a team practice on Thursday. “That’s because the league scheduled Stanwood and because of my scheduling – they can thank me – we got Central Catholic.”

“That’s what these guys want,” Sood pointed out of this team. “They’re competitors, and they want to go play the best and compete against the best, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Central Catholic was the Oregon class 6A state runner-up last season, and boosts of a long history of team success. Their current 4-9 record is somewhat misleading as five of their nine losses this season were at elite tournaments in Portland and Las Vegas that featured some of the top high school teams on the West Coast.

Other top teams scheduled to play in the King Showcase are Arlington, ranked No. 6 in the Seattle Times 4A boys state rankings, Todd Beamer, ranked No. 3 in the Times 4A girls state rankings, and Inglemoor, ranked No. 10 in the 4A girls state rankings. The Mountlake Terrace Hawks are currently ranked No. 9 in the 3A boys state rankings.

The MTHS-Central Catholic game will be broadcast live on the Sound Live Sports Network starting at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Monday.
