Expect detours, delays on 44th Avenue West this week as pipe work continues

    Work on improvements to the water main, sewer and storm drain infrastructure beneath 44th Avenue West and 224th Street Southwest in Mountlake Terrace continues this week and drivers are being advised to be ready for more daytime detours and lane closures in the area.

    Both lanes of southbound 44th Avenue West at the intersection are scheduled to be closed Monday through Thursday, Sept. 12-15, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. A detour that takes motorists west to 48th Avenue West will be in effect.

    During the same time, traffic on northbound 44th Avenue West in the area will be reduced to one lane of travel. Officials are advising northbound drivers that an alternative route is also available via 225th Street Southwest, 42nd Place West and 223rd Street SW.

    Local access to the two businesses at the intersection will be maintained using of 44th Avenue West and 224th Street Southwest.

    The project, and similar work on 58th Avenue West, is being completed by Kar-Vel Construction of Renton at a cost to the city of $1.9 million. Work at the site will continue into fall.
