Mountlake Terrace High School is hosting a benefit event for school alum Skye Torrey on Thursday, April 28, that will feature music, personal stories and educational speakers in the fields of domestic violence and sexual assault.
The Relationship Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness and Benefit Event will take place at 7 p.m. in the MTHS Theater. Speakers at the event will include faculty and staff from the University of Washington Department of Gender, Women and Sexuality.
Proceeds from the event will go to Torrey, a UW student set to graduate with a major in Gender, Women and Sexuality studies this June, and whose life story includes growing up in a family that suffered from domestic violence. Torrey is raising funds to assist in meeting the housing needs of her family. She has also created a GoFundMe page for the effort at https://www.gofundme.com/meyehqhk.
Student musicians from the MTHS choir, band and jazz bands are slated to perform at the event on Thursday.
