With the Lynnwood Royals winning a state championship this past season, local prep girls basketball is riding high and getting plenty of attention.
Edmonds-Woodway had a solid 2014-15 season, finishing 18-6, and Meadowdale and Mountlake Terrace hope to turn things around next year with new coaches.
Fans will get their first look at what may lie ahead for the four teams next winter as they will all be in action next weekend at the eighth annual Edmonds Summer Shootout.
The Edmonds Summer Shootout is the largest summer girls basketball tournament in the state of Washington. This year varsity and junior varsity games will take place at Lynnwood, Meadowdale and Mountlake Terrace high schools and a number of junior high and middle schools in the area, with the varsity championship game set for Sunday, June 14 at 4 p.m. at Meadowdale.
As many as 48 varsity and 32 junior varsity teams are expected to participate in the tourney, which guarantees each squad will play at least four times during the weekend.
In addition to 3A State Champion Lynnwood, the tournament is also expected to attract a number of state tournament qualifiers from last season, including Todd Beamer, Bellamine Prep, Curtis, Snohomish, Glacier Peak, Bellevue, Mercer Island, Bishop Blanchet, Arlington and North Kitsap.
Lynnwood is the three-time defending champion of the Edmonds Summer Shootout. Tournament updates will be available on Twitter at https://twitter.com/EdmondsShootout.
