Edmonds School District Superintendent Nick Brossoit on Friday sent the following letter to staff following the shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School Friday morning:
October 24, 2014
Today there was a shooting at Marysville Pilchuck High School. The media is providing updates; information about this situation is still being developed. The Marysville district and law enforcement are in the reunification process of connecting parents and students from the school at a nearby church.
We have reached out to officials in the Marysville School District, offering our condolences and support. In addition to keeping them in our thoughts and prayers, we have offered help with communications, and will be sending related staff to assist. We have also offered counseling support for students or staff that will be part of their plan in the days that follow. Thanks to our staff for being ready to help.
The news of this event impacts students, families, and each of us. Thank you for the caring and competent support that you provide for each other, our students, and families.
I also want to encourage you to get assistance if it would be helpful for you to process this for yourself. Our district contracts with Far West Services to provide assistance to any of our employees in dealing with any event where having a trained professional to talk with would be constructive. The two links below provide that contact information, and please feel free to use this resource if helpful.
I will send a message to our district families over the weekend, letting them know that we will be ready to provide support for their students as they return to our schools on Monday.
