Eagle Scout candidate Kyler Griffith received a Certificate of Appreciation from the City of Mountlake Terrace on Thursday for his recent volunteer work project at Ballinger Park. Griffith received the commendation at the city council’s work/study session.
Griffith’s Eagle Scout Project was to lead the effort to install message center boards at the three entrances to Ballinger Park. After meeting with city staff and attending public sessions of the city’s Neighborhood Park Improvement Sub-Committee, Griffith collected donated goods and tools for the centers, coordinated volunteers, and assembled and installed the message centers.
Posted at the message centers are park regulations, a park map, additional maps of other Mountlake Terrace city parks, and information on various recreation programs in the city.
Griffith lives in Snohomish and attends Glacier Peak High School.
“We have been fortunate to work with the Boy Scouts of America over the years,” said Ken Courtmanch, the city’s Park Services and Property Management Superintendent. “In the last year-and-a-half, the City of Mountlake Terrace has had eleven different scouts perform their Eagle projects, and we currently have two more projects in the works,” he added.
