Community Transit is the easiest way to get to the Evergreen State Fair, with a special stop adjacent to the West Gate entrance during fair hours.

The fair runs Aug. 27 through Sept. 7 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. For the first time in five years, Community Transit will provide bus service every day of the fair. The agency restored Sunday and holiday service earlier this summer.

The fairgrounds are served by Community Transit Routes 270 and 271 Monday through Friday and Route 271 on Saturday, Sunday and Labor Day.

Free parking is available at Everett Station, 3201 Smith Ave., and at the Gold Bar, Snohomish and Sultan park & rides.

Weekday Service

On weekdays, Routes 270 and 271 will serve the fairgrounds from Everett. Buses will run every 30 minutes during the morning and evening peak, with hourly service in the middle of the day and at night.

On weekday afternoons, commuter Routes 277 and 424 will also stop at the West Gate.

Weekend/Labor Day Service

Only Route 271 operates on Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day. On Saturdays, the bus runs every hour; on Sundays and Labor Day, the bus runs every two hours.

The last trips leaving the fairgrounds will be:

Weekdays – 8:37 p.m. to Everett

Saturdays – 8:43 p.m. to Everett

Sundays/Labor Day – 7:34 p.m. to Everett

Complete schedules are available at www.communitytransit.org/schedules and through Bus Plus schedule books on buses. Community Transit also provides real-time bus information at www.myBusFinder.org. Enter the four-digit stop number located on the bus stop and get the next departure times for that bus stop.

On Monday, Aug. 31, Community Transit will have a booth at the Fair during Senior Day.

Fares

Taking the bus to the fair is cheaper than a funnel cake – and less fattening, too. Bus fare is $2.25 for adults, $1.50 for kids ages 6 to 18, and $1 for people with a reduced fare permit. Children 5 and under are free.

If you pay with cash, you must pay for each trip. If you need to take more than one bus to get to the fairgrounds, the best value is to use an ORCA card, which gives you a two-hour transfer credit for the fare you’ve already paid. ORCA cards may be purchased online at www.orcacard.com or in person at Everett Station or your local Safeway, QFC or Rogers MarketPlace. Take the Sounder train to the Washington State Fair in Puyallup

Sound Transit’s trains run on Saturdays, Sept. 19 and 26, serving nine stations between Everett and Puyallup, including Edmonds. Take a free shuttle between Puyallup station and the fairgrounds.

Due to popular demand, Sound Transit increased train capacity this year. Two five-car trains will take passengers between the Snohomish County stations of Everett, Mukilteo and Edmonds and Seattle’s King Street Station. Snohomish County passengers will change trains at King Street Station, crossing the platform (just a few steps away) to board seven-car trains that stop in Tukwila, Kent, Auburn and Sumner before reaching their Puyallup Station destination. Three round-trip trains will run between Seattle and Puyallup.

After the Fair, head to the Fair’s Red Gate to take the shuttle back to Puyallup Station. Allow yourself plenty of time to catch the train at Puyallup Station.

Snohomish County riders: To return by train, you must take one of the first two trains leaving Puyallup. The last train trip from Puyallup ends in Seattle.
