It may still be winter, but the Mountlake Terrace Park and Property Services department has been in full gear preparing city park and recreational spaces for upcoming activities associated with spring and summer, in addition to completing a required repair at the Recreation Pavilion.
To get ready for the upcoming baseball and softball seasons, city ball fields are being tilled and leveled, with soil being added to infields where needed. Base pegs for home plates and pitching rubbers will be placed soon.
Debris and blackberry overgrowth are being removed from the site of the former Ballinger Lake Golf Course in preparation for turning the property into a city park. In addition to city staff, volunteers from around the Lake Ballinger area have taken part in some of the labor at the site.
City staff had to perform some additional work to the jacuzzi spa at the Recreation Pavilion following the building’s regularly scheduled shutdown in late December/early January for maintenance. The jacuzzi “had a leak issue” and was closed for most of the month of January. “The spa is up and running,” said Recreation and Parks Director Don Sarcletti recently. “Our maintenance technicians were able to make some modifications and repairs to the spa and pump system.”
Recreation and Parks Department adult softball leagues begin March 17. MTYAA baseball is now accepting registration for youth ages 4-19. Jacuzzi spa hours at the Recreation Pavilion vary.
