Cedar Way Playground Update

Cedar Way Elementary was hoping to make it to the Top 10 in the Pepsi Refresh challenge, which would have earned them $50,000 towards their dream playground. Though the project did move from around #180 up to nearly #70, they couldn’t quite make it in to the Top 10.

Here’s a note from the playground committee thanking everyone who voted:

We want to thank everyone for all of their work to get out the vote – we moved a lot of votes and came up in the ranks from #178th when we started!

We are not done working towards our dream playground! We do have things in the works to continue moving forward.

Thanks again from the Playground Committee!

Because the project made it in to the Top 100 on the Pepsi Refresh challenge for May, it was automatically rolled over in to the month of June so you can still vote for the project at https://www.refresheverything.com/cedarwayplay, though the playground committee won’t be doing a big push at this time to get votes. They will likely push for the Pepsi Refresh grant again sometime this fall.

Until then, there are a few additional ways you can support the project:

  • Dinner at Claim Jumper, June 10th, 5-10 pm — with flyer 15% goes to playground fund (PDF of flyer here. You must bring this with you.)
  • Writing grants for monies from local and national foundations (if you like to write, this could be fun!)
  • Playground picnic for families on August 28th (note date change — this is closer to beginning of school)
  • Partnering with Kids N’ Clay for a paint-your-own tile fundraiser

For more information about any of these activities email Cedar Way PTO at cedarwaypto@yahoo.com.

  1. Why can’t they use the brand new playground equipment from Evergreen Elementary? they are using it anymore. It was only used for 1 school year

  3. Thanks for your story, Dustin, and thanks to those that voted! rnrnRe: using other school’s playground equipment – we’ve looked into this and it was determined that to move the equipment (i.e. ripping out from the concrete posts and taking it apart) could impact the integrity of the structure making it not safe. It’s a great idea with the potential to save a lot of money, but it was one that was deemed not safe to do. rnrnIf you have other ideas on how to raise the funds (we’re aiming for $50K – $75K) we’d love to hear them.
