CPC-MLT logoWith the poise of veterans, the Cedar Park Christian School – Mountlake Terrace Lions looked sharp in the opening minutes of their first game in the WIAA 1B boys state basketball tournament in Spokane Thursday. But the big size of the Colton Wildcats and the big pressure of the state tourney eventually caught up to CPCS-MLT as Colton ran away in the fourth quarter, defeating the Lions 80-61 in quarterfinal action.

The Lions will face Three Rivers Christian on Friday, March 7, at 10:30 a.m. in a losers-out game at Spokane Arena.
CPCS-MLT jumped out to a 17-9 first quarter lead over the Wildcats before taking a 43-37 lead into the locker room at halftime. But Colton blitzed the Lions in the second half, grabbing the lead in the third quarter, then outscoring CPCS-MLT 24-7 in the fourth to secure the victory.

The Wildcats were able to take advantage of numerous Lion mistakes, outscoring CPCS-MLT 24-5 in points off of turnovers.

Colton’s 6-7 postman, Dalton Patchen, scored 35 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked three shots to lead the Wildcats. The Lions were led by the 20 points of senior Eric Matson and 19 points of senior Ben Reidy.

CPCS-MLT has little time to dwell on the quarterfinal lost as the Lions must face Three Rivers Christian on Friday, March 7, in a losers-out game slated for 10:30 a.m. With a win on Friday, the Lions will play for fourth place in the 1B tourney on Saturday morning.
