MLT Memories

Mark, an MLTnews reader, sent us this memory of growing up in Mountlake Terrace: I remember playing in the woods where the city hall is located back to 236th and into the canyon where I-5 is now. We used to catch crawdads in Johnny’s creek between Lake Ballinger and the elementary school. When they built the city hall, they also had an ampitheater behind where the new police station is locat... »

The new Mountlake Terrace Shopping Center, featuring stone walls and a flat roof

Recognize these buildings? If you spend any time in the Town Center neighborhood you will probably recognize one of them. If you’ve been around for a while, you may recognize the other as well. The quote is from the sales web site for the new Monterra townhouse development on 48th Ave W: The city of Mountlake Terrace is going through major development changes and is being compared to the Mill Creek of 10 years ago. I asked our followers on Facebook and Twitter and here are some of their ... »

Mountlake Terrace Homes, Starting at $5,999

Fortunately this was the price of new MLT homes in the 1950′s, not how far current prices have dropped. Last week I showed a photo of a gas station in Mountlake Terrace from the 1950′s and some readers on Facebook thought it was the Shell station on Ballinger Way/244th. Though not technically in the city limits it seems to be the best guest. See the aerial photo at the end of this post... »

Scott's Service, 1951

I found some great old photos of the Mountlake Terrace from the 1950′s that I’ll be posting with the hope that you, the readers, may be able to pinpoint where they were taken. It would be interesting to do a then/now comparison. Most of the photos will be form the Tacoma Public Library’s image archives. Today’s photo is of Scott’s Service, a Texaco gas station .
