With five Mountlake Terrace City Council positions, four Brier City Council positions and the Brier Mayor post up for election this year, the county elections division is expected to be busy this week as online candidate filing is open until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17.
In Mountlake Terrace, Council positions 1 through 5 will all be on the ballot this coming November, with August primary voting if more than two candidates file for any post. Positions 1-4 are four-year terms beginning in January 2014; Position 5 voting will be for the current unexpired term that runs two years, January 2014 until the end of 2016.
Current Position #5 Councilmember Bryan Wahl told MLTnews.com last week that he will indeed run to complete the term that he was appointed to in September 2012. All four of the other office holders — Mayor Jerry Smith and Councilmembers Rick Ryan, Doug McCardle and Kyoko Matsumoto Wright — are expected to file and run for re-election to their posts.
The filing fee for any of the five Mountlake Terrace Council positions is $96.
In Brier, four-year Council positions 1-3 and the two-year at-large position will be contended this year; the filing fee for any of the four council posts is $24. Also on the ballot this year will be the mayor post; its filing fee is $120.
The current office holders who will see their positions on the ballot in Brier are Bob Colinas (Mayor), Marc Olson (Council Position 1), Martin Krienke (Council Position 2), Mike Gallagher (Council Position 3) and John Joplin (Council-at-Large).
Also slated to be on the ballots in Mountlake Terrace and Brier this August and November are County Council District 4 position, Edmonds School District Director District 2, three Snohomish County Fire District 1 positions, and a Hospital District 2 position.
