During the past four years, students at Brier Terrace Middle School have won 63 state championships and received more than 100 top five finishes in the competitions held at the Washington State Technology Student Associationís annual conference. This year, they are hoping to add to that total.
The 14 students competing March 24-26 in Bellevue have practiced and prepared for their events, which include CO2 dragster design, problem solving, structural engineering, technical writing, leadership, career challenge, inventions and innovations, video game design, and digital photography.
In the photo above, students in the structural challenge were given 20-feet of balsa wood and one ounce of super glue to make a bridge that spans 10-inches and holds the most weight. The best group built one that holds 60 pounds.
This yearís participants include Kyle Barnett, Carson Dodge, Celina Hipolito, Logan Hopkins, Haeley Johnston, Tyler King, Jeremiah Leben, Sean Moore, Brandon Nakata, Jonah Newhouse, Joey Owens, Brandon Park, Megan Slaughterbeck and Ryan Waldrop. Good luck to these students!
