Playing under the lights at Everett Memorial Stadium, the Mountlake Terrace High School baseball team couldn’t have asked for a better ending to their 2014 regular season. The Hawks defeated the Everett Seagulls 7-0, secured second place in the Wesco 3A South Conference, sealed the No. 2 South seed in the upcoming 3A District 1 tournament and guaranteed that the first game of the postseason would be played at home.
Terrace rode the arm of starting pitcher Ben Reijonen on Tuesday as the junior right-hander went five innings, giving up only four hits to the Seagulls. Silva Raiden came in to relieve Reijonen in the sixth inning, then gave way to Jesse Prothero in the seventh; both relievers kept Everett off the scoreboard to preserve the win.
Reijonen helped his cause by slapping RBI singles in the third and seventh innings for the Hawks. Other picking up RBI
s in the game were Wyatt Allemann, Dominic DeMiero, Jaden Yackley and Drew Serres.
The Hawks outscored their opponents 48-12 during their five-game winning streak to close the 2014 season. The team’s 10-7 Wesco League record gives them the second place in the South Conference even though both Glacier Peak and Meadowdale, with wins to close out their season this week, could end up with similar records. But Terrace claims the #2 spots as the team holds the tie-breaker over both the Grizzlies and the Mavericks due to better head-to-head records.
Mountlake Terrace will open the double elimination district playoffs on Saturday at home against Ferndale, the No. 3 North seed. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
