With Wesco 3A South Conference rivals Meadowdale and Glacier Peak having their Monday games postponed, the Mountlake Terrace High School baseball team had a chance to jump ahead of the Mavericks and the Grizzlies in the division when they faced the visiting Marysville-Getchell Chargers. The Hawks took full advantage of the opportunity, pulling out a 5-4 victory over Marysville-Getchell and assuming second place, for now, in the conference.
Terrace built a 5-1 lead in their matchup with M-G on Monday after junior Michael Hunt, hitting only .208 on the year, slugged a two-run homer in the fourth inning. It was only the second home run the team has hit all season. The Hawks gave up three runs in the sixth to the never-say-die Chargers, but held on for the win.
The Hawks have now won four in a- ow and six of their last seven games as they head into their regular season finale on Tuesday, May 6, against the Everett Seagulls. The game will be played at Everett Memorial Stadium, home of the Everett Aquasox, at 7 p.m.
