The unveiling of “Hawk Way,” the new name for the roadway that encircles Mountlake Terrace High School, will take place at the school on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at 9 a.m.
The Hawk Way Dedication Event will include a procession of MTHS students, a choir and the marching band around the high school to the site of where the new street sign hangs above the entrance into the school campus at 44th Avenue West. Officials from the City of Mountlake Terrace, the Edmonds School District and Mountlake Terrace High School will also be on hand for the dedication.
City crews will hang the new “Hawk Way” street sign early this week, but will keep it covered until its unveiling Wednesday morning.
Although the driveway through the high school campus is not a public thoroughfare, the city has labeled it 217th Street Southwest with a street sign on the traffic signal arm mast at 44th Avenue West. Crews are in process of replacing all such street signs in the city, creating an opportunity to replace the current 217th Street Southwest sign with one proclaiming the roadway “Hawk Way.”
Mountlake Terrace City Councilmembers gave their endorsement of the ceremonial name change in May.
